ABOUT THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
|
The Community Development Department was recently created to align several traditional functions of village government under a single umbrella. Those functions include planning, building inspection, code enforcement, geographic information systems, economic development and animal control. David Wiese was promoted in December 2006 to the position Executive Director of Community Development. Mr. Wiese will be coordinating the aforementioned departments and will be the Village's primary contact for economic development activities. The creation of the Community Development department was largely in response to the Village's growth in the past decade. The Village of Howard has become one of the fastest growing areas in the State of Wisconsin. Per estimates generated by the Department of Administration (DOA), the Village has grown 16.3% (2,209 resident increase) since the year 2000. With a population estimate of 15,755, Howard is now the 4th largest community in Brown County, trailing only the City of Green Bay (102,767), the City of DePere and the Village of Ashwaubenon (17,634).
With over 18 square miles of area and immediate access to Interstate 43, US Highway 41 and State Highway 29, the Village is primed for growth for the next decade. Besides highway access, the Village also has direct rail access and is within five (5) miles of the Green Bay International Airport.
Currently the Village has land for sale in the Lancaster Creek Business Park and the Brookfield Industrial Park.
